Learning is defined as, “a change in long-term memory”. Therefore, teachers and leaders need to be certain that, over time, children can do and remember more. They also need to be confident that children are exposed to and can apply the appropriate vocabulary to support and articulate their learning.
The Thematic Knowledge & Vocabulary materials provide staff with direction around what children should know and understand by the end of any given theme, via precise and targeted questions. These questions should help guide the teaching and learning so that children can develop and embed their knowledge, skills and understanding.
In addition, key vocabulary is provided for every theme to ensure that children are exposed to a language-rich environment and that they develop a strong grasp of the correct, subject-specific terminology. This vocabulary has been carefully mapped in a sequential way to ensure that children are always building on previous learning.
